The Trillium Network and NGen’s Report on Manufacturing Productivity
Solving Canada’s “Productivity Problem”
This week’s episode of Making it in Ontario features the second part of our conversation with Jayson Myers, the CEO of NGen, Canada’s Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster. The episode focuses specifically on the topic of productivity, and is accompanied by a report published jointly by the Trillium Network and NGen. The report can be found here.
Productivity is a complex subject. It is important to understand how productivity is measured and the structural factors that determine the rate of productivity of any given industry or company in order to design and implement measures to improve it. This notion underlies the report and is central to Jay and Brendan’s conversation this week.
Throughout this week’s episode, Jay comments on how economic developers can support productivity growth, what universities could be doing to better support manufacturing, and how best to analyze productivity growth in the rapidly evolving and increasingly digitized advanced manufacturing sector.
Stay tuned for next week’s episode, which accompanies the launch of our ‘Trillium @ 10’ report. This episode features Brendan Sweeney and compares the state of Ontario manufacturing today to ten years ago. It also ventures some insight into the key elements of a manufacturing strategy for Ontario, such as investment incentives, workforce, and automation.
