Western Institute for Earth & Space Exploration (Western Space)
Based at Western University, the Institute for Earth and Space Exploration (Western Space) aims to lead interdisciplinary research and innovation and to strengthen and grow the Canadian Earth and space exploration communities through inspiring and training the next generation of scientists, engineers, social scientists, and entrepreneurs.
Established in 2019, Western Space is home to 64 researchers from nine (9) faculties and nineteen (19) departments. These researchers work in pursuit of the Institute’s research, outreach, and training goals. Such goals include remotely exploring and characterizing the Solar System and the Universe beyond, contributing to the sustainable human exploration of the Moon and Mars, bringing the benefits of space science and technology down to earth, ensuring the Canadian space program has the human capacity to deliver Canada’s Space Strategy, and inspiring the next generation of Canadians to develop their space science literacy and pursue careers in STEM fields.
