Green and Intelligent Automotive Facility (GAIA)
Based at the University of Waterloo, the Green and Intelligent Automotive (GAIA) Research Facility is a division of the Waterloo Centre for Automotive Research (WatCAR). One of the most advanced facilities of its kind, GAIA consolidates a broad range of testing capabilities and expertise, supporting both academic researchers and industry in their development efforts.
GAIA collaborates with the Toyota Technical Centre in Michigan to develop next-generation automotive systems. It has three cells to test batteries and power electronics with vehicle-to-grid capabilities, hybrid/electric vehicle powertrains that reduce emissions, and full vehicles on a rolling dynamometer.
