Centre for Applied Bioscience and Bioengineering (BioZone)
Organizational focus: The Centre for Applied Bioscience and Bioengineering (Biozone) uses advanced biotechnology to address urgent societal energy, environment, and health needs.
Who they are: Based at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, BioZone is a centre for industrial and environmental biotechnology research. Their multidisciplinary team consists of researchers who work at the interface of biology and engineering to create advanced technologies.
What they offer: BioZone’s researchers develop technologies from the concept stage in the lab to viable commercial biotechnology products. They optimize genetic and regulatory processes within cells and microbial systems to transform less desirable chemicals into more desirable compounds. The centre also contributes to environmental and industrial microbiology, enzyme discovery, production and characterization, metabolic engineering and modelling, and process and economic assessment.
